Our Story

Yesterday

Kauai Kunana Dairy was started in 1979 by the Wooton family.  Bob and Louisa both came from farming backgrounds in Ohio and West Texas, respectively.  Our sons, Ryan and Troy, were born on Kaua’i and raised into the farm life from birth.  In 1991, after leasing for many years, we were blessed to buy our property on Kaua’i’s north shore.  From undeveloped grassland, we planted fruit orchards, fenced in pastures, built animal housing, and created all the gardens that can be seen today at the farm.  A talented carpenter and licensed contractor, Bob built our farm house and, in 1999, he completed construction of the dairy building.  We became a licensed dairy to sell cheese and started with a milking herd of 12 goats.  From these modest beginnings, our business has expanded to a milking herd of 30 does with a full herd of over 80 goats.

Today

Kauai Kunana Dairy is located on the magical North Shore of the Garden Island of Kauai. We are a true micro-dairy, specializing in artisan goat cheese, and goat milk products including soap, hair care products, and skin products.  Our family farm also produces USDA/HOFA certified organic fruits and vegetables.  Our value-added products include Macadamia Nut Pesto, Lemongrass Vinaigrette, Red Wine Herbal Vinaigrette, and Hawaiian Chile Pepper Sauce.  Ryan is our family beekeeper.  In addition to his delicious honey, he has developed a delightful line of beeswax products including soap, balms, salves, and candles.

Tomorrow

A couple years ago we purchased a 6.25 acre piece of land in the Moloa'a area.  It is a productive rambutan orchard that we are in the process of turning into a diverse fruit and vegetable farm like the one at our current property.  After regenerating the soils with cover crops, organic composts, and organic supplements we have been able to give the soil there life again and we currently are cultivating a 1/2 acre garden there.  We also have started the process of  going away from a monocrop Rambutan orchard and have started replacing them with Avocadoes, Mangos, Citrus, Soursop, Sapote, Lychee, Mangosteen, Rollinia, Breadfruit as well as many more diverse fruits.  We will of course still keep some of the rambutan orchard while turning the property into a more sustainable and diverse orchard.
